Kenya Launches Third Collection of ‘Magical Kenya Signature Experiences’

In a bid to enhance the tourism sector and tackle seasonality challenges, the Kenyan government has urged the private sector to play a more active role in the Magical Kenya Signature Experience (MKSE). Tourism Principal Secretary, John Ololtuaa, emphasized the importance of collaboration to diversify and amplify the value and volume of tourism experiences across the country.

During the third collection unveiling ceremony of the MKSE, 17 new facilities were recognized, expanding the collection to a total of 61 signature tourism products. Ololtuaa praised the winning facilities for their contribution to the program, enriching Kenya’s tourism offerings for both domestic and international travelers.

Francis Gichaba, the Chairman of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), highlighted the necessity of diversifying tourism products, including adventure tourism, agro-tourism, and wellness tourism, to appeal to evolving market demands and offset seasonality impacts. This move aims to promote sustainable growth and increase the tourism-generated income in Kenya.

The newly recognized facilities will benefit from marketing opportunities through various promotional initiatives such as FAM trips, exhibitions, and collaborative events, aimed at increasing their visibility and attracting more visitors. John Chirchir, the Ag CEO of KTB, emphasized the importance of aligning with emerging travel trends, emphasizing the need for authentic local experiences, nature-centric activities, and responsible tourism practices.

The Magical Kenya Signature Experiences (MKSE) Program, launched in December 2019, involves a meticulous selection process, including a pre-qualification quiz, application, desk and on-site audits. This program is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), and trade partners such as KATO, KAHC, TOSK, and Ecotourism Kenya. With the continuous involvement of the private sector, the initiative aims to elevate Kenya’s tourism sector and establish it as a globally renowned destination with diverse and exceptional experiences for travelers.
